Golden Oldies

Worthing Cats Protection have a number of older rescued cats in it's care, they may have come into our care because either they have out-lived their owners, their owners cannot afford the veterinary costs as their cats get older or just that they are not as cute and playful as when they were younger.

Our senior cats deserve their own caring homes just as much as our younger cats. They of course get passed over for the younger ones and can be with us for a long time.

There are however a number of advantages of adopting one of our Golden Oldies, one of them being that they are unlikely to bring you presents i.e. mice, rats, birds, or frogs !!  A cat which has reached about 8 years will be thinking more about its favourite sleeping place and is much less likely to go hunting.

Cats over the age of 10 can be adopted under our Golden Oldie Scheme.

This scheme exists to help owners who need it to meet the extra costs of caring for older cats.

It provides financial assistance to meet the cost of age related illnesses such as thyroid, renal, kidney, heart etc. It also offers to meet half the cost of special veterinary prescribed food.

The Scheme does not include the cost of preventative treatment such as vaccinations, worm and flea treatments, and neither does it cover injuries/accidents for which insurance is recommended.

Older cats usually make very good companions and suit people who do not want to cope with the more boisterous activities of younger cats and kittens.

Older cats are often more affectionate than younger, more active cats.

They are unlikely to roam and most of them like nothing better than a cosy lap on which to while away the hours !

If you are interested in adopting an older cat, please contact the Homing Officer on 01903 873717

Currently we have the following Golden Oldies available:-

[Last updated - 30 June 2010]

RUDY

Rudy is a 14 year old shorthaired black male cat. He likes a lot of attention, laps, being fussed and wandering in the garden. He doesn't get on well with other animals but is okay with children. He is on medication for hyperthyroidism and his liver but has no problem with taking the tablets. He will need regular check-ups but the costs of all this medical care will be met by Cats Protection.

SHELLEY & FIZZ

Shelley and Fizz are 11 year old black & white female cats. Shelley is semi-longhaired and Fizz is shorthaired. They came into care due to the previous owner's daughter's allergies. They will be okay with children but not other cats. Both are friendly and love a fuss. They need to be rehomed together.

SWEEP & TINKER

Sweep is an 11 year old longhaired black male cat and Tinker is a 15 year old shorthaired ginger & white male cat. They are both very affectionate but aren't used to playing so will be unsuitable for a household with younger children, or dogs or other cats. They are looking for a new home together.

SPUD

Spud is a 10 year old ginger shorthaired male cat. He came into care after his owner died and is very friendly. He purrs a lot, likes being picked up and should make a lovely lap-cat.

JAKE

Jake is a 14 year old tabby & white shorthaired male cat. He was found abandoned in a carrier bag in a hedge and was taken in by a cat-lover but unfortunately did not get on with her other cats. He is very loving, has a loud purr, likes a lap to sit on and sleeps a lot! He does have feline bronchial disease for which he is on medication, the costs of this will be met by Cats Protection. He needs a quiet home with no other animals or children but would like a garden.

LUCY

Lucy is a 12 year old longhaired tortoiseshell & white female cat. She came into care after her owner was unable to look after her. She is very affectionate and would make an ideal pet for an older person.
